Consider these statistics:

  • Truly turn off electronics. Plug your devices — the TV and DVD player, or the computer and printer — into a UL-certified power strip; switch the whole group off for the evening to prevent phantom electrical draw.

With all the people you might be expecting, it can be pretty tempting to set out single-use cups, plates and utensils. However, all of those items that get tossed in the trash have to go somewhere, and with very lightweight items like those, that place tends to be the water.
