Fumio Sasaki,
. . . is one of a growing number of Japanese people,
. . . deciding that less is more, and
. . . living in a minimalist way.
He became tired of keeping up with trends, and
. . . set about paring down his possessions.

Imo; it's a culture thing.
Bamboo screens; simple floors; not much on the walls.
Ying/Yang
Americans seem to like clutter. Lot's of stuff.
Agreed; we need to let go
(There's even a commercial these days saying just that)
but as hard as I try................
I find beauty in pictures on my walls, plants in my living room (oxygen) drapes, flowers (my hippo collection)
I guess I'm out of the "simple" scenerio
Too stark...........i.e. not for me

I know what you mean.
While I love the lack of clutter, in minimalism,
. . . my accumulation of things, over the years,
. . . has just built up, in our home, and
. . . it's just hard to throw things away.
