A group of approximately 70 concerned citizens met on May 13, 2014 to discuss threats to the New River Basin's rivers and streams. A major topic of that conversation was the Town of Boone’s proposed water intake project on the South Fork of the New River in Todd, N.C. A majority of the attendees voted to form a not-for-profit corporation to protect the river. The Articles of Incorporation of New River Advocates, Inc. were certified by the North Carolina Secretary of State on June 6, 2014. Our by-laws were ratified and we announced our formation and purpose on June 9, 2014. We intend to operate in compliance with U.S. Treasury Regulations and Internal Revenue Code 501©(3).
