If we compare traditional and modern energy technologies then what are the major changes you see?

Your advice would be appreciated!

Traditional energy has always been coal; cheap, readily available but extremely damaging to the environment and us;
one of the main causes of global warming.

Hydro power has also been around for thousands of years via dams but large scale dams are also damaging
to the environment but contribute no emissions.

Modern is solar, wind, landfill capture of methane, algae among others.

Natural gas has come to the forefront but the fracking chemicals taint the water supply and a substantial percentage
of methane is released into the atmosphere; much worse than CO-2.
But the koch brothers, halliburton and the oil giants keep touting the benefits of this "cleaner" energy
source.
