Observatory towers are being put in place to monitor trees, insects, animals, CO-2 levels,
rainfall/moisture, and other data at several sites.
The Smithsonian, working in conjunction with National Science Foundation will start
collecting data in 2017 from these sites, along with planes equipped with laser's.

Among other things, they will be studying the effectiveness of forests on taking up
green house gases.

As data is collected, it will be posted on the net in real time, so people can view the
results.
