. . . 3 miles off the island’s coast.
It was a historic moment for residents, and
. . . for Block Island Power Company,
. . . which officially shut down its diesel generators, and
. . . began receiving power from the turbines.
They were importing nearly
. . . 1 million gallons of diesel fuel every year,
. . . fuel cost alone, reached a height of
. . . $.35/kilowatt hour (kWh), that did not include
. . . transmission, and distribution charges.
The national residential average of
. . . $.13/kWh, VS about $. 60/kWh, on Block Island.
