Hey guys! I work with Movoto Real Estate, and we're pretty darn proud of our animal calculator that allows you to enter your yard size and see how many animals (sheep, goats, cows, chickens--even guinea pigs) it would take to mow your yard. Grass-powered mowers!

I can't post links yet, but go to the Movoto blog and search for it (7 down) or Google Movoto Blog and animal calculators.

Enjoy!

That is an adorable idea. I saw a video once for a service that rents wallabies to people to trim their lawns by grazing and they can even choose what color of wallaby they want to hire. It would be cool if you could rent goats in the US. You would have a cute pet for a few hours and the lawn would get trimmed noiselessly.

I live in an apartment so I don't have a lawn. Still, I enjoyed playing around with the animal calculator. That's a very creative idea. Other members of my family are playing with it too. ;)

Awesome! I'm glad they didn't forget guinea pigs. They're like compact lawnmowers and they're adorable to boot. I'm going to give it a try straight away. After all, if the calculator says I need six guinea pigs to mow the lawn, I can use that as an excuse to buy even more guinea pigs without feeling bad! So, let's see what it says...Wow! It says it would take 17 guinea pigs to mow my lawn in just one day! Well, that's a little too many guinea pigs, even for me. I like your calculator, but I think it would attract even more people if you put in a cute animation of a goat/guinea pig/chicken/whatever gobbling up grass.

This is so cool! Our local museum uses goats to keep the bushes near our freeway cleared up. I remember driving on the freeway and thinking "Are those wild goats?" before finding out what was going on in the paper.

I've never seen animals rented for residential lawn mowing.  However, they are used all the time to keep parks, hills, etc. freshly mowed.  Sheep are brought into dry areas along highways to keep down the fire danger.

My dog pulls out some of the grass when she rolls on the lawn.  I suspect it would take her a long time to mow the whole lawn.  LOL

I have one guinea pig but the yard is too big for him to mow all by himself. We don't spray or use chemicals on the grass, so once in awhile he goes outside and does his part to do a little mowing. As a bonus, he also drops a little natural fertilizer on the lawn for us, too!
