President Obama launched the America's Great Outdoors Initiative (AGO), to empower Americans to protect, restore, and reconnect with the rivers, lands, parks, and wildlife of our Nation. Among the goals of the AGO initiative, the President emphasized the value of waterways to our Nation's history, economy, and way of life, and directed his Administration to implement strategies to protect and renew rivers and other waters. In AGO listening sessions across America, the rivers community turned out in force to express their passion for the rich natural and cultural history of our rivers, and appreciation of their recreational, economic and ecological importance.  To fulfill the President’s vision for healthy and accessible rivers, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has launched an AGO Rivers Initiative to focus the Department’s efforts to restore and conserve our nation’s treasured rivers.
