Verticalization?

Verticalization, means that a company owns the:
. . . supply chain, or
. . . parts of the supply chain, for the product it sells.
Depending on how vertically integrated it is, it can own everything,
. . . from a product’s basic parts,
. . . to its assembly, marketing and sales.

Tesla, massive battery factory will be built like “an industrial park under one roof.”
SolarCity, “When our strategy is realized, we will be,
. . . the most vertically integrated solar company in the world.”
Elon Musk, Electric Car, Batteries, Solar panels, is also in conversations with
. . . nickel-mining companies about trying to reduce,
. . . battery component costs from the mining side.

Elon Musk, thinks that scale is necessary for us to get solar to a point,
. . . where it is a dominant energy source, at 40% of the planet by 2040,
. . . [than the world needs] to have annualized solar capacity of 400 GW.”
“the similarities between Tesla’s gigafactory [and SolarCity's factory],
. . . are just the need for building out massive scale. “

Elon Musk, definition of Verticalization:
[T]he thing that would make us really efficient — or for any given technology level,
. . . is to say, how far did that molecule move?
And if the molecule is taking several round trips around the world, that's expensive.

If it's just moving from one station to the next, then that's obviously lower cost.

And so the vertical integration just means that the molecule doesn't move as much,
. . . it's not being put in a box and
. . . then put in a truck and
. . . then on a boat, and
. . . then, you know, going through customs and
. . . stuff like that.
