Opponents of large-scale wind projects,
. . . gathered in the Statehouse on Wednesday,
. . . to cheer on a push to ban “industrial wind” in Vermont, and
. . . to give communities more say in what happens with local energy developments.
The rapid expansion of solar farms around the state,
. . . has spurred worries about the loss of open land, and
. . . unsightly solar panels marring the landscape.
Even hydroelectric has detractors among those who say the loss of habitat, and
. . . indigenous lands caused by the flooding behind massive dams,
. . . means the power source fails the sustainability test,
. . . one of the measures sometimes used to define renewable energy.
Vermonters object to change, by what is rapidly becoming the state motto:
. . . “Not In My Backyard.”
