Federal Govt. Pushes Solar Energy In 6 Western States

I've often daydreamed about what we could do with all the open, government owned land here on the west coast. It seems our government has been dreaming big too! An article posted back in December 2010 stated that the Obama administration had proposed "special energy zones" in six different western states that were deemed good locations to build utility-scale facilities to produce electricity from solar power. It was said the amount of electricity that could be generated by the sun on all BLM lands in the six states, including the designated energy zones, could total 24,000 megawatts over 20 years. Today, the Obama administration has identified 17 areas in six western states as prime candidates for solar energy projects on public lands. This plan refines and improves on the earlier proposal back in December.
