Does anyone have a recommendation for a good brand of LED bulb? The reviews I see talk about them being good for spotlights, but are there any that are good for general lighting?

I'm still working my way around the site and learning where everything is, so if someone's already posted about this, oops, my apologies.

So far I did not check information about these LED bulbs as I still cannot find them here in Mauritius.

Forgot about CNET reviews. Thank you, Godarna! (Wow, Mauritius? That always looks so pretty in the pictures I see of it. I know tourist-type pictures are supposed to be pretty, but, hey. It looks nice there.)

Good question. I'd like to know one. It's hard to get a good brand without having to break the bank...I saw some at Ikea, I think, but I'm not sure how good they are.

I tried out some made by Osram a couple of years ago - the light was very dim (it was a 2w bulb - the most powerful I could find at the time) and they wore our much more quickly than the halogen bulbs they were replacing. I tried two of them. To be fair, I did write to Osram to highlight the short life of them and they offered replacements, but I never got round to posting them back.

I think it is still somewhat hard to find some because it is so pricey still for a good LED light! They are there but you have to pull out some pretty good money! If you do not mind Amazon has a lot of them! Worth checking out!

I have made some electronics that required very bright LEDs that were as efficient as possible. My research led me to the LED brand CREE because it has the brightest LEDs on the market and the greatest light output per watt of power. I don't know what products use their LEDs in order to make bulbs, but if you are looking for the best technology, it might be worth sending their information department an email to ask about who uses their LEDs to make bulbs.
