Problem: Puerto Rico, is deep in Debt.
. . . Following 2 horrible, hurricanes, Puerto Rico is facing a humanitarian crisis.
. . . Millions of people are without:
. . . . . . clean water,
. . . . . . electricity,
. . . . . . houses,
. . . . . . passable roads,
. . . . . . many of the basic essentials we take for granted in advanced developed countries, and
. . . . . . deep in Debt.

Imported oil, is an expensive source of energy,
. . . at the current price of 24-27 cents per kilowatt-hour,
. . . from their bankrupt utility PREPA,
. . . is contributing to the island’s economic problems.

Solution:  A strong push for renewables,
. . . at the current price of 13 cents per kilowatt-hour,
. . . would become a source of:
. . . . . . green jobs, and
. . . . . . economic development.

The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA),
. . . was $9 billion in debt before declaring bankruptcy in July.
Its equipment was already "degraded and unsafe,"
. . . according to a draft fiscal report the company filed in April.

According to the Department of Energy,
. . . Hurricane Maria left the entire island, and its
. . . 3.4 million residents without power, and destroyed
. . . 80% of its transmission, and distribution infrastructure.
Puerto Rico's electricity is generated from:
. . . . . . 1/2 fuel oil,
. . . . . . 1/3 natural gas, and
. . . . . . the rest from coal.
