India, and other developing nations ,
. . . are in a position,
. . . to skip straight to an emissions-free future.

New research has concluded that,
. . . India can transition and function on a fully
. . . 100% renewable energy system by 2050, and
. . . bypass the traditional western reliance upon,
. . . linking increasing living standards,
. . . with heavy emissions from electricity generation.

From the CleanTechnica article linked above:
"concluding that India can function entirely on a 100% renewable electricity system by 2050"

If you look at the figure/graph in the cleantechnica article it shows a lot of photovoltaic generation capacity, almost 70% of the 9191 terawatt-hours of countrywide electricity generated annually and a lot of battery storage capacity, enough for about 3330 terawatt-hours to be stored annually.  That's a lot of both.

What wasn't clear to me in the cleantechnica article was whether or not the cost of the batteries was included in the projected 2050 cost of electricity.  So at the website of the university mentioned in the cleantechnica article is a link to a pretty detailed paper:   https://www.research...nergy_For_India

After a quick look at the paper and it's supplemental material, looks to me like they do include the cost of the batteries, but that they assume considerable cost reduction between now and 2050, perhaps an unreasonable degree of reduction.

Also looks like they assume a continuation of the trend for PV costs to decrease.  Also looks like they put a price on CO2 emissions starting in 2020.

Maybe somebody else could look at the numbers and see if they seem reasonable.
