Facebook, has announced the opening of its Fort Worth, Texas data centre,
. . . which is a cornerstone for its global infrastructure.

The new one Billion dollar data centre campus, is powered by
. . . 100% clean and renewable energy, with the inclusion of over
. . . 200MW of wind power.

I think the claim of 100% renewable is exaggerated.  Hope I'm wrong though.

I think they're claiming, or seeming to claim that that 200MW windfarm supply all the electricity to the data center.  So what about when there's not enough wind?  Shut down? A data center?  Not likely.

From looking at some other websites, looks like the windfarm produces more electricity than the data center uses most of the time, the excess electricity sold onto the grid in exchange for "renewable energy certificates."  The renewable energy certificates can then be sold.  Used to buy grid electricity when necessary, when that 200 mw capacity windfarm doesn't have enough wind to supply the data center.  https://sustainabili...newable-energy/

So, will actually use fossil fuel electricity from the grid sometimes.  (If I'm "reading between the lines" properly)

The wind electricity is great, but not enough by itself.

Your right, 100% of anything is hard to believe.

In a Billion Dollar data center, "100% renewable,"
. . . could also have batteries,
. . . to sm-o-o-o-th out, and store energy,
. . . for those sensitive computer electronic circuits,
. . . for when the Sun don't shine, and
. . . the Wind don't blow.

Here's another couple of example's of 100% of Fossil Fuel
2016 Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) energy chart.
. . . 97.3 Quads Generated,
. . . 30.8 Quads Used
. . . ----
. . . 66.4 Quads Rejected
66% of USA energy is "Rejected?"

87% of Transportation energy is "Rejected."
. . . only 12.6% is actually used, to move the vehicle down the road.
