The USA electric grid,
. . . is an amazing integrated system of machines spanning an entire continent.
The National Academy of Engineering, has called it,
. . . one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century.
The American Society of Civil Engineers,
. . . just gave the entire energy infrastructure a barely passing grade of D+.
But it's old, and
. . . to replace it, would cost almost $5 trillion.
There is essentially no storage of electricity on the grid;
. . . instead most energy is stored in fuels:
. . . . . . Coal,
. . . . . . Gas,
. . . . . . Nuclear,
. . . . . . Water, behind dams,
. . . all waiting,
. . . to be converted into electricity, in real time.
2/3 of all electricity generated,
. . . is "Rejected."
