I have seen electric cigarettes, and thought they were props. I thought they had a battery, and generated smoke. had no idea they were supposed to be useful to anyone who still wanted to smoke in any way.

I tried them, they don't have the same feel or taste of a regular cigarette, which makes them pointless for me.

I've quit smoking now any way.

If they were supposed to be "green" it would be called greenwashing.
In other words, BS.

It's a gimic product so we'll consume more junk.
Anyone remember "pet rocks?"
Same BS

My mother used one as an interim crutch while we was trying to quit smoking (for about the third or fourth time in the past 15 years) for her it did seem to help ease the transition to being a non-smoker since it took away some of the normal stimuli and "enjoyment" of smoking but still helped meet her nicotine cravings. She did eventually manage to quit the habit altogether.

My sister's boyfriend also managed to successfully use an e-cig for a number of weeks, but then forgot to charge it and went back to smoking. Such a shame.

I agree with shortpoet though, this product is really not any more "green" or sustainable than smoking. Clearly the best solution is to quit... but I know it is easier said than done for many people.

I don't think that electronic smoking has caught up in my country and wish it doesn't because either way to me smoking harm both the smoker, the person next and the environment too.

I do smoke, and I've never heard of these to be honest.

I like the idea of them cutting out on the second hand smoke, I hate it even though I smoke, it's not the same as first hand, so cutting back on that is a plus. and so is the fact that less of that will be going into the environment.

I know some smokers don't care about what they're doing to themselves, and others, but I do care, I just choose to smoke, and now it's normal for me.

I do intend on quitting, although I don't know when... I am going to look up these electronic cigarettes because I'm curious as to how they work and all that. :) I think I'll stick to normal ones though.

I ran across something the other day that was troubling. Some of the e-cigs have nasty chemicals in them. So, while the air isn't being harmed by the e-cig consumer, her lungs are. They're using acronyms and new names for chemicals people would often avoid.

My husband is a smoker, and I desperately want him to quit. I looked into the electronic cigarette even though he was totally against it. It seems that it may not be much better. It still has nicotine in it, which isn't helping a smoker quit for good. It also has other chemicals that may have a negative effect on a persons health. Since it's not approved by the FDA, I personally would not use it. Not to mention, they are pricey, so you're still spending a bunch of unnecessary money. I'm with Bababooey: you're trading one bad habit in for another!

Either way, I wouldn't recommend Chantix to stop. I know a guy that tried it, and he had a eczema type
skin condition from it for months. Looked horrible.
He went with the patch and that seemed to work.
Some people have reported just holding a pencil helps- having something in their hand.
Imo, those e-cigs are a gimic, but that's just me.

If anyone is seriously trying to stop smoking, there is a health food product, which aids in reducing the nicotine from your body. It is called DGL. It is a licorice supplement and is said to have helped many people trying to quit smoking. Most health food stores should carry it, or you can find it at Puritan's Pride online.

I've tried this before (I'm a former smoker) with great success. The only problem was the brands that were affordable ran out rather quickly and it is difficult to find them anywhere. I would recommend trying this if you are a smoker who wants to quit.

There's also the tried and true method of buying cigs you can't stand. You won't smoke as much, until,
evidently, you quit. Reduction-stop.

I am not a smoker and definitely will remain one. Smoking do not have any good benefits for our health and for the environment.

Electronic cigarettes are designed to lessen the smoke released in the environment. This could lessen air pollution and second hand smoke cases. Nice to know that for those who can not stop smoking, there is a greener option.

But still, total quitting will be the best solution.

Have you tried electronic cigarettes ( for those who smoke)? Why and why not?

Yes, I do smoke. But haven't heard of them and it may be some time before they hit the market here in India. But I'm not looking that far. I've some parallel strategies to kick the habit. I feel guilty: towards my family & to the society as well.

Have been smoking for almost 10 years now and been trying to stop it at least 5 times now. The longest count is at 5 months. Its really in the persons self-discipline that counts here. The problem with mine is that I am working in a environment wherein I meet people who often smoke a lot. I have no choice but to pick a stick every time I'm engage with these people. The electronic cigarette is a good option. The good thing is that I have reduce my cigarette consumption from 10 sticks to 2-3 sticks a day. And I already learned that when I smoke, I make sure that I an far from other people so that I myself will not cause for their death. Second hand and third hand smoking are far more dangerous than the first. I rather kill myself than killing someone.

That didn't work for me. I tried menthol cigarettes because I didn't like the taste, but what happened was I ended up preferring them instead. Nicotine is very addicting, so people who smoke have a very hard time quitting no matter what type of cigarette they are smoking.

Yeah, if only they put that on the side of the package-
"By the time you finish this pack, you'll be hooked up for life (or death, as the case will be.)"

I've seen these demonstrated in a few local malls. Though its a better alternative then smoking, I still have to wonder why someone other then someone who wants to quit smoking would want to use this.

If you don't smoke, why even consider using one of these? It's as if they market it as the new fad to try. I'm still not sure what to think of it, but to each their own.

I have not tried the electronic cigarettes. I don't smoke but I know a few people that do and that have tried the electronic cigarette. They all said it doesn't work and they craved cigarettes while using it. I think if you want to quit, your best choice is to just quit cold turkey.
