Iowa’s Tornado Alley, and flat topography,
. . . enables better and more frequent wind gusts.
But Iowa also adopted some of the nation’s first policies to promote renewable energy.
. . . In 1983, the state passed legislation creating a Renewable Portfolio Standard,
. . . which directed the state’s utilities to alter their generation mix to include at least,
. . . 105 megawatts of renewable capacity, an initial goal that led the way for Iowa’s current
. . . 5,708 MW from wind.

That Iowa produces about one third of it's electricity from wind is laudable.
Other states should try to do as well.
Found a US EIA website that gives an idea how far we have to go in the US to get to all non-fossil electricity.
See http://www.eia.gov/e...er/?src=home-f1
(Note what happens as you move your browser's cursor over different lines on the graph.)
Got a long way to go to get to all non-fossil electricity. Which provides about one-third of the energy we use.

Currently 2/3rds of all energy generated,
. . . is wasted/rejected.

Texas has quite a few wind farms too. (Ironic considering they're 99.9% gop & don't #1 don't believe global climate
change is real and #2 that renewables are foolish
& yet,
they are flourishing.

Whirlpool Corporation, announced plans to build
. . . $13.5 million of wind turbines to help power its Marion and Ottawa plants in Ohio.
Many dishwashers, freezers and clothes dryers, manufactured by Whirlpool, and sold in the U.S.A.
. . . will be made, in part, with wind energy.
