To mark the 70th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II,
. . . officials shut down hundreds of pollution-producing factories across the region, and
. . . banned 5,000,000 cars off the streets.

These actions produced the desired clear blue day
. . . The air quality index, usually at dangerous levels,
. . . sunk to a desirable 17 out of 500.

Although locals enjoyed clear blue skies on the morning of the parade,
. . . they were dismayed to awaken to the familiar muggy gray on Friday,
. . . as regular traffic and factories were reopened.
