Elon Musk announced Tesla’s home / business battery today.

$3500, is less than the cost of a fully decked out Mac.

As competition against a backup generator, the battery has huge advantages
. . . . . . Seamless,
. . . . . . no fueling,
. . . . . . less maintenance,
. . . . . . can save money on day-to-day operations,
. . . . . . no noise,
. . . . . . Instant starting,
. . . . . . etc...]

LCOE (levelized cost of electricity), the cost of electricity over the lifetime of the battery.

$7,140.- Tesla Powerwall battery pack with:
. . . . . . Inverter, and
. . . . . . Installation, says SolarCity.

Something amazing has happened in the energy market.
. . . The cost of solar power has fallen to the point where, in a growing number of places,
. . . it’s cheaper than the electricity that utilities deliver,
. . . from their coal-fired power plants.
And its price is still falling.

Maybe the best news of the night is,
. . . that it really looks like Musk believes in his technology as:
. . . . . . public benefit 1st,
. . . . . . business opportunity 2nd.

Because, Tesla is leaving their patents open to all,
. . . leaving other companies free to use not only Tesla’s battery technology,
. . . but the production processes used in their gigafactories to actually make the batteries.
. . . No licensing fees, no lawsuits,
. . . it would actually seem that Musk, just want's the technology to be put to use,
. . . no matter who’s selling it.

For every 3 watt's that the Grid generates,
. . . 2 watts are rejected (Wasted) energy.

Therefore, for every watt generated by Solar + Batteries,
. . . that's 3 watts, NOT needed from Fossil Fuels on the Grid.

And if you have a Gigafactory making batteries,
. . . you can turn things very fast.
All you need is, people willing to step up,
. . . save Money, and the World.

What's the down side?

The battery price is unmatched by anyone else, including the best lead acid.
. . . I estimate the 7 kWh pack at delivering for 13.7 cents per kWh.
. . . . . . That is with all inefficiencies included.
. . . Working with solar, lithium is ideal because it does not need full recharge.
. . . . . . Lead acid does need full recharge, and
. . . . . . that has been its weak point for off grid.

Fronius, U.S.A. inverter specialist, will collaborate with Tesla from the 4th quarter of the year,
. . . bundling its Symo Hybrid inverter with the Tesla Powerwall home battery,
. . . to customers in Germany initially, before rolling out the package,
. . . to the rest of Europe and Australia.

Everyone looks at batteries differently, and everyone loves it, for different reasons.
. . . Businesses, love it's economy,
. . . Residential, love it's simplicity, and
. . . Utilities, love it's efficient flexibility.
