The Aereo premise is delightful and clever.
. . . Instead of having to pay a cable fee to get standard broadcast television,
. . . Aereo, supplying you with a remote antenna,
. . . that perfectly legal method by which we used to get broadcast television for free,
. . . will send you basic television over the Internet.

The fee you pay Aereo is for renting the antenna.
. . . Aereo, for its part,(unlike cable systems, which pay broadcasters a retransmission fee)
. . . takes the television signals for free. And why shouldn't it?
. . . Television, broadcast over public airways, is free.

The broadcast industry, now dependent on those cable retransmission fees, is naturally apoplectic.
. . . After challenging Aereo in the courts with mixed results tending to favor Aereo,
. . . it faces it in the Supreme Court this week,
. . . in a decision that could remake the television business.

What we know is that 5 years from now,
. . . . . . the television business,
. . . . . . how we get video,
. . . . . . who pays for it, and
. . . . . . who makes money from it,
. . . will have dramatically changed.

Oi.
And my cable bill just went up AGAIN.

The Aereo is a good idea but it would only be for the main 3 right? ABC, CBS and NBC; probably PBS.
Except for PBS, there's not much on those networks worth viewing, so we would still have to carry cable.

But it could change things, and might give the cable giants a run for their money.
But yet another but-can we trust the supremes to ever do the right thing?    Doubtful.
