I wish I could just forward a link but unfortunately, you have to be a member to get the newsletter, so what I am going to do is provide the headlines an an alternate link.. I am doing this because as all the old timers will attest around here, we are the renewable energy to hydrogen guys around here and have been posting link regarding fuel cell cars and their 2015 rollouts, however I am going to include some other important stories besides just the cars so read and click on.

Honda Unveils FCEV Concept at LA Auto Show - Announces U.S. and Japan Launch in 2015

file:///C:/Users/LOISMO~1/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.jpgOn November 20, Honda unveiled its Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) concept car at the Los Angeles International Auto Show (LAIAS).  The FCEV concept features sweeping lines and an ultra-aerodynamic body.  Honda also announced that its next generation of FCEVs are expected to be launched in the United States and Japan in 2015, followed by Europe.
For its next generation FCEVs, Honda has developed a new fuel cell stack, which is 33 percent smaller and tours increased power output from 100 kilowatts (KW) to 106 KW.  This new size stack allows Honda to move the stack under to the engine compartment, expanding the seating to five passengers.

More information on Honda's FCEV concept is available here.

Next-generation fuel-cell vehicle "Toyota FCV Concept"
Los Angeles Auto Show 2013
The Toyota FCV Concept is a practical concept of the fuel cell vehicle Toyota plans to launch around 2015 as a pioneer in the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The vehicle has a driving range of at least 500 km and refueling times as low as three minutes, roughly the same time as for a gasoline vehicle.

The vehicle's exterior design evokes two key characteristics of a fuel cell vehicle: the transformation of air into water as the system produces electricity, and the powerful acceleration enabled by the electric drive motor. The bold front view features pronounced air intakes, while the sleek side view conveys the air-to-water transformation with its flowing-liquid door profile and wave-motif fuel cap. The theme carries to the rear view, which conveys a catamaran's stern and the flow of water behind.

With Toyota's proprietary small, light-weight FC Stack and two 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tanks placed beneath the specially designed body, the Toyota FCV Concept can accommodate up to four occupants.

The Toyota FC Stack has a power output density of 3 kW/L, more than twice that of the current "Toyota FCHV-adv" FC Stack, and an output of at least 100 kW. In addition, the FC system is equipped with Toyota's high-efficiency boost converter. Increasing the voltage has made it possible to reduce the size of the motor and the number of fuel cells, leading to a smaller system offering enhanced performance at reduced cost.

Fully fueled, the vehicle can provide enough electricity to meet the daily needs of an average Japanese home (10 kWh) for more than one week.

Hyundai Unveil New Tucson Hydrogen Car at LA Auto Show

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2013 – Hyundai today announced plans to offer its next-generation Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle for the U.S. market for just $499 per month, including unlimited free hydrogen refueling and At Your Service Valet Maintenance at no extra cost. For the first time, retail consumers will be able to put a mass-produced, federally certified hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in their driveways, with availability beginning in Spring 2014 at several Southern California Hyundai dealers.
“Hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles represent the next generation of zero-emission vehicle technology, so we’re thrilled to be a leader in offering the mass-produced, federally certified Tucson Fuel Cell to retail customers,” said John Krafcik, president and chief executive officer, Hyundai Motor America. “The superior range and fast-fill refueling speed of our Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle contrast with the lower range and slow-charge characteristics of competing battery electric vehicles. We think fuel cell technology will increase the adoption rate of zero-emission vehicles, and we’ll all share the environmental benefits.
FUEL CELL PRICING AND BENEFITS
The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell will initially be offered to customers in the Los Angeles/Orange County region for $499 per month for a 36-month term, with $2,999 down. This includes the addition of a remarkable new addition to the Hyundai Assurance program –unlimited free hydrogen refueling. “When we spoke to customers interested in driving a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, many wondered what the cost of hydrogen would be,” said John Krafcik. “To ease those concerns as we build-out the hydrogen refueling network, we thought covering this cost for these early adopters in the monthly payment was the best approach, and consistent with other aspects of our Hyundai Assurance program. It’s our way of saying: ‘This is another thing you don’t have to worry about, we’ve got your back.’”

PLUG POWER RECEIVES NYSERDA FUNDING TO EVALUATE USE OF FUEL CELLS FOR DELIVERY OF PERISHABLES
LATHAM, NY – NOVEMBER 13, 2013 – Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ: PLUG) has received funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to demonstrate the viability of replacing diesel generators with hydrogen fuel cells for powering transport refrigeration units (TRUs) on trailers hauled by trucks that deliver perishable goods.

Plug Power was selected by NYSERDA to develop a fuel cell and interconnect hardware, which provides connection to refrigeration unit equipment, based on its GenDrive® fuel cell architecture. The Plug Power TRU fuel cell will power a Carrier Transicold refrigeration unit for the Sysco Corp. distribution center in Long Island, NY, for 12 months. Hydrogen will be supplied by Air Products.

Successful completion of this trial is expected to open the door to hydrogen fuel cell expansion into the refrigerated transport market – employing clean energy to regulate cold temperatures for fresh and frozen foods, such as produce, dairy products, meats, ice cream and other items while en route to grocery warehouses, distribution centers and retail destinations.

Most of the 300,000 TRUs in operation across the U.S. today are powered by diesel, which is expensive and environmentally hazardous due to the emission of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx). In the course of one day, a typical TRU can consume about 10 gallons of diesel and emit 101 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is in stark contrast to Plug Power hydrogen fuel cells, which have zero CO2 emissions, and release only a small amount of heat and water.

There is a lot more regarding new products and roll outs for several new hydrogen energy generation, if anyone is interested I will post more on this thread.  For anyone that’s interested Hydrogenics is a leader in alternative energy to hydrogen production, storage and energy generation and is considered by many( including us)  to be a giant in the drive toward renewable hydrogen.

The picture above is for the 2015 Toyota Concept.  Unfortunately this one has been in deep undercover for the past year and so we have not driven it yet, that said we should get a chance real soon and when we do will post video and driving performance details.

Excellent info E3! Thanks for the links.
Regarding cars/trucks-do you have any inside info on infrastructure on hydrogen? The stations, pumps, etc.

This Google map shows several available in California, and one in South Carolina but no where else. :vava:

(And I resemble that "old timers" line.)

Currently ther are 31 fueling stations in the works outside California and South Carolina, they are all being developed for the late 2014 early 2015 roll out.  Most are located in Texas, Conneticut, DC, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, with a sprinkling in some major cities like Atlanta, Miami, and so on.  They will be at established service stations.  The only two that I can speak about personally are on the new hydrogen pipeline between Houston and Baton Rouge.  Those two are slated for opening in Feburary 2015.  The NREL and DOE are working to identify sites right now for stage 2 and 3 roll outs in 2016 & 2017.

I can tell you this there should be a private one in Fort Lauderdale as soon as I can buy an FCV, it will be at our home.
