The easiest way to save energy is . . . to turn the lights out.
. . . but the type of light bulb you turn out
. . . decides HOW MUCH Energy and Money you save.

I thought they had stopped production of incandescent's but they're still in the stores. Cfl's/led's are the
only way to go-saves money and emissions.

15 years ago, we replaced every incandescent light bulb in the house,
. . . with a CFL light bulb, cutting our monthly electric bill in 1/2.
I had not considered replacing CFL's with LED's,
. . . because the cost savings of purchasing the bulbs and
. . . energy savings, just did NOT add up.

The 60 watt bulbs have only made their way to retailers over the past and
. . . typically at prohibitive 30 to 40 dollar price points.
But recent sales of 60 watt equivalents at big box retailers such as Home Depot and
. . . Menards have seen price drops to under 15 dollars a bulb and
. . . we can safely expect the 10 dollar price point to be broached by later this year.
So this year, we replaced every CFL, with LED,
. . . because the bulb cost to purchase had dropped and
. . . energy savings, had about doubled.

What's the difference?
1) LED prices have come down
2) LEDs turn on instantly
3) LEDs don't get hot
4) LEDs are brighter than CFL
5) LEDs are NOT temperature sensitive
6) some LEDs are dimmable
7) CFLs contain Mercury that need special recycling
8) A 6 Watt LED, equals the light of a 40 Watt incandescent
We haven't replaced the long tube fluorescent bulbs yet,
. . . those will be next.

More charts and graphs about $$ savings via cfl's and led's.

16 years ago, I changed all the lights in the house,
. . . to CFL's and it cut our electric bill in 1/2.

Over time, the electric bill has climbed back up there, and
. . . I have been looking at LED's, but was not impressed,
. . . with the light output from the bulbs and their cost,
but this year, things changed when I was shown a
. . . "Flush mounted ceiling light fixture, with NO BULB!"

Instead of a bulb, it had 48 little gold chips,
. . . on a circular flat reflective surface,
. . . shining thru a frosted glass bowl.
The light was brighter than the CFL's, came on instantly and
. . . lite up the whole room, better than the CFL's ever did.

Over the past month, I have replaced most of the CFL's,
. . . with these LED's, then replaced the "Reading lamps" and
. . . then the bathroom mirrors, small "candelabra" based bulbs.
I was surprised by the number of lights we have in our home,
. . . most of which are located in places,
. . . where they are used for only short periods of time and
. . . so I quickly replaced the ones that are "ON" the most,
. . . as they are more expensive then regular bulbs.

I know that the LEDs last 25-30 years, and use less Watt's,
. . . but it's still hard to replace a lot of the at once,
. . . as the sales ticket price quickly climbs.
Another thing is, all of a sudden,
. . . they don't measure lights in Watts any more,
. . . they measure them in lumens.

It's hard to explain the difference that an LED light can make,
. . . you have to see a "before and after" picture, to understand.

And let's not forget another new term-Kelvin.
They have come out with mini cfl's. This article raves about it, but personally, I was disappointed. I put one in my
bedside table lamp and it's little more than a night light.
But they have come down in price. Years ago when I switched over to cfl's, they were $9-12 a piece. Ouch.
My outside lighting is led, and I'm very happy with the brightness it gives to the walkway; and no spike in my bill.

Did You Know: The average household, has approximately 30 light fixtures.
. . . If every household replaced ONE light bulb,
. . . . . . with one that has earned the energy star,
. . . we would save enough energy to light,
. . . . . . 3,000,000 (Million) homes for a whole year
, and
. . . . . . prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of
. . . . . . 800,000 (thousand) vehicles.

Climate Change is such a BIG problem,
. . . what could one person possible do,
. . . that would make any difference at all on such a BIG problem!

Changing just ONE light bulb,
. . . that's such a tiny thing,
. . . it couldn't possibly change anything,
. . . could it?
or they think that people are trying to
. . . take their "Cheap" incandescent bulbs away from them.

The EPA is challenging Americans to switch out their inefficient light bulbs,
. . . with 20 million energy star light bulbs,
. . . by Earth Day 2014, (Tuesday, April 22)
. . . which would save more than $118 million each year in energy costs, and
. . . prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 150,000 vehicles annually.

Did You Know:  Every time you turn on the light switch,
. . . not only are you consuming energy and adding to your carbon footprint,
. . . you are also increasing your water footprint.
Electricity production requires tremendous volumes of water,
. . . to power steam-generated turbines and to cool equipment.
. . . In fact, more than half the total water withdrawals in the U.S. each year,
. . . feed our electrical grid.
In some regions of the country, these withdrawals for electricity production,
. . . are contributing to water stress.
Switch out just one incandescent bulb for an energy-efficient LED,
. . . saving about 42 gallons of water per week,
. . . or almost 2,200 gallons per year.

LED'S coated with a graphene filament are being developed in the UK.
Testing shows a 10% reduction  in energy use.
