Gina McCarthy is Obama's nominee to take over the EPA from Lisa Jackson.  She already holds a position within the EPA.  So far, everything I've heard is good.

Here's some information on her:

Many Bostonian's are as tough as nails, she may be too. She'll need to be; to fight the big polluters.
Contradiction though-she's Irish Catholic but says she believes in science. Wait and see I guess.
More info on her here.

I don't understand your comment.
As far as I know being of Irish ancestry doesn't have to matter on a person's views on science and the Catholic Church's current positions are not in in conflict with today's science.   Evolution is accepted, the big bang is accepted.  Global warming is accepted too.

Apparently though there are individuals who say they're Catholic and who reject global warming and other aspects of science too.

I have to agree with still learning. I come from a Catholic background.  I've never known the church or practitioners to be anti-science in the modern era.  While their might be science deniers, it doesn't reflect the individuals that I know.

Catholicism has a strong sense of social justice and bettering ones community and the environment, at least how it is practiced here in California.  So, I would expect a strong sense of that from this nominee.

I wasn't speaking to the Irish part as much as the religious part. True believers think their god created the universe,
and not the clashing of planets.
Maybe you know some religious folks that accept the big bang theory; most I speak to don't. And those same
many I've spoken to, think that global warming is because of god; not man.
But I suppose there are exceptions.
