I saw that Ken Salazar will be stepping down as U.S. Interior Secretary in March. I think his tenure has been a mixed bag. We've increased oil drilling and oil leasing under Salazar. But, he's also put a tremendous amount of effort into promoting alternative energy especially wind and solar. And, he has made some efforts in protecting rivers.
I've heard Governor Christine Gregoire's name as a possible replacement. I know only a little about her, but I think she has some background in environmental policy.
It is an important post especially if we want to see continue research and development of alternative energy methods. I hope the President chooses wisely.

And I hope she (or he) isn't talked into the tar sands pipeline.

Would you rather have Canada's oil processed by our EPA regulated refineries or China's unregulated ones? I'll chose ours!
Air polluion is global, (and my state will be the first ones hit!).
The whole pipeline debate has been overblown. Every picture you see leads one to conclude this is the only pipeling going over virgin territory when in reality there are already hundreds, if not thousands of pipelines going through the same area.

Not a clue. Speaking of pipelines, the governor of Nebraska has just approved the route.

Sorry, not something I track with any interest. No matter who is nominated, it's moot to debate since no one has any idea how they will actually perform once doing the job. Only after a few decisions have been handed down will we know what he/she is up to, priorities, etc.
