On a global scale, five countries broke heat records. <_<

None set cold records. ^_^

Worldwide through November, the average could be the warmest since record
keeping began in 1880. -_- (December figures are not in yet)

July was the hottest month in record keeping history.

69,000 heat records were set with 356 locations in 34 states hitting their highest ever
heat marks. :vava:

97% of the ice in Greenland had some melting; overall sea ice shrank below previous
lows.

Wildfires that burned for months, Sandy, flooding across the globe has killed thousands
if not more..............
The Mississippi went down 53 feet in a period from May 2011 to August 2012. That's dry.

James Hansen predicted back in 1988 for instance, that Memphis would have 26 days
or more of above 95 degree heat in the 2010's.  This year? 47

At one point this year, 65% of the lower 48 were in drought condition.
Which also led to wildfires. Close to 10 million acres burned.

(Costing taxpayers money btw, but hey, we really don't want to address the root
of the problem, do we? Just throw money at the damage later.)

Source

But there will still be people that say-nope; not true.
None of that happened,
or maybe if it did, we're not responsible,
or if we are responsible, then there is nothing to be done to change it,
or if we do try to do something about it, it will cost too much...........

To those of us who believe in climate change and the  affect humans have on our planet, this all points to the need for action, my biggest fear isthe number of unforseen consequencesor feedback loops like methane being released by melting permafrost, the debate for some goes on, even in this forum.  My personal feeling is that climate change is real, mans affect is part of the issue and that we need to work toward an alternative energy future to replace fossil fuelsfor energy and transportation, this will takedecades to accom9lish and so we need to continue to worktoward that goal.

Well shut the front door.  Just as most of us thought temps just keep rising and it does not look like its slowing down.  Currently here in Florida we are 10 to 12 degrees above normal for January temperature.  But it's not just here in the United States, in an article KOTTKE.org it is being reported that Australia is having to add a new color to the climate models to signify new record temperatures. Likewise the New Scientest is reporting another record week of extreme heat in Australia.

" 2012 was warmest and second most extreme year on record for the contiguous U.S."......
Might as well look at what NOAA says, what HuffPost and other news outlets are deriving articles from: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/

Global warming?  Naah....

Thank God the Global Anomaly last month was only .2 degrees celsius. The globe seems to have shed most of it's warmth

Could you point us to where you got that number?
If you mean January 2013 (last month), seems way too soon to have come up with a worldwide anomaly.  Takes awhile to compile all the measurements.

According to NOAA the global anomaly was 0.4 degrees C in December 2012.  ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/anomalies/monthly.land_ocean.90S.90N.df_1901-2000mean.dat

The climate it is a changing, the Congress it is a dragging, but on the good side a new survey shows that 70% of Americans now state they believe climae change is occurring.  My question is when will Congress get off their backsides and do something about emmissions.

Two days ago Lois and I meet with two of our Congressional Represenatives in Washington DC.  Congress women Debbie Wasserman Schultz said while environmentalists criticized Obama for not doing enough to address climate change in his first term, Obama resurrected the issue in his inaugural speech. Wasserman Schultz said there has to be a comprehensive plan on climate change.

Meanwhile our Senator Marko Rubio is still questioning the validity of climate change, a view we disagree with, he also argued that the current decrease in CO2 production since 2007 is a good indicator of how markets can shape the climate change issue.  Our feeling is that if you do not pass a climate change bill business will not have a dedicated plan to follow leading to more footdragging and in action.

It's like other issues; if the American public get involved and send them e-mails, tweets, letters, phone calls-whatever;
and let them know that this is a huge issue, larger than gun control or even voting rights,
they may begin to stir.
As long as "we the people" that Obama talked about in his address remain apathetic, so will they.

And we have to negotiate hard with China; but with Kerry there is hope too. He's more passionate
about climate change than Hillary was. (Although I know that's not his job, but he'll bring it up I'm sure.)

You're mixing up the global land temperature anomaly with the global temperature anomaly.
Land only:  ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/anomalies/monthly.land.90S.90N.df_1901-2000mean.dat
Land and sea:  ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/anomalies/monthly.land_ocean.90S.90N.df_1901-2000mean.dat

To me global includes both land and sea.

I do understand why a denier/skeptic website like WUWT chooses to conflate global with global land

It will be hard for you to deny this Amethyst; the Great Lakes water levels are at their lowest levels in years.

"The lakes were 29 inches below their long-term average and had declined 17 inches since January 2012.
The other Great Lakes — Superior, Erie and Ontario — were also well below average."
