Not far wrong.

The Chinese government has given the go-ahead for leveling 700 mountains.

Omg, for what you may ask?

Condo's and apartments of course, silly. Urban sprawl at it's ugliest.
More roads, more parking lots, more emissions.

And no mountains. :bye:

Kind of like an old song, except a horrible reality of the overpopulation of China.  Of course, it has happened here, too, for a long time and for the same root cause.  Nothing was ever done about overpopulation here, and we keep letting in people as if we are infinite.  China tried but insufficiently............ eco-collapse is ahead for almost all countries and the planetary biosphere in general.

China was on the news tonight because their economy is improving.  They showed images of a city and the smog was thick enough that you could touch it.

The leveling of these mountains is tragic.  Something you can never get back once it's done.  It is the same as when they decided to flood all those archaeological sites and villages on the Yantgze River.  All in the name of progress.  It makes me wonder how long it will be before we hear of the environmental disasters that China has created.

China has the money to do things differently, but not the will evidently.

Thomas Friedman's book comes to mind-Hot, flat and crowded. (Although he didn't mean flat mountains in his book)

That is an odd sounding story although if a "mountain" is anything over a couple thousand feet and you think of how large China is, 700 may not be many BIG mountains just a lot of large hills.

Either way, when any country has good economic times there are usually more babies born.

China has many mountains, with mountainous areas making up two-thirds of its total land area. ... There are thousands of mountains in China.
