What's your motive to be off the grid using solar power or other alternative energy? I think most of us wish to help the environment by changing our habits and maybe save money as a bonus. Here's a marketing ploy by a solar panel supplier having us think perhaps it's for another reason.

The last time I worried about what people thought of me was around 1974.
People (advertisers) will always try to put us into their neat little boxes. "Oh, she buys this, so she'll buy that too."
The ad is condescending to me.

Haha Shortpoet. Good one. I agree, I don't care what people think about me and just get annoyed when someone who did market research for an hour thinks they know exactly what we want as consumers. I'll just go on my merry way and enjoy my solar powered home.

But you left out the fact that you're crunching on an organic granola bar, wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt,
organic cotton shorts and hemp sandals while
on your way out the door to pick home grown tomatoes from your garden before you brush off the dust from your
solar panels with a hemp broom.

Not only did I stop caring what people think of me long, long ago, I stopped being part of the flock that keeps advertisers in business long, long ago. I did some studying on how advertising works on consumers and learned to recognize when they're all but lying by using a few choice words, when they're trying to create a demand for a product that didn't previously exist, etc... It's fascinating, but it has no hold over me. Especially since I don't have TV any more.

Getting old doesn't have many advantages, but one of them is the 'I don't give a damn what people think about me' attitude that develops with advancing years. And if that guy thought about it, he'd have trimmed his foliage before stepping in front of the camera. That must have a terrific carbon footprint on its own. I have no time for this patronising, condescending BS.
