Now this isn't my rallying call for us to all use solar powered ships to commute.
Although that would be awesome!
(thinks: are solar powered jetpacks feasible?)
But I thought I'd draw this story to the forum's attention, as it demonstrates the worth of seemingly "stunty" news stories being able to capture the imagination, and help drive forward a technology and more importantly, the world's perception of it.
I know it's not of "man lands on moon" proportions, but it does inspire more than "slight improvements in efficiency made in solar panel technology".
So read, enjoy, share, and maybe stress the 'pirate fighting' the crew had to do to complete it's mission.

Thanks for posting this! I would love a solar powered jet pack! I am just waiting for jet packs to hit the market. I feel like it should be done by now lol

Our earth is becoming so hot/warm and solar (maybe also thermal) powered gadgets could really be the trend.
Solar powered ship sounds really good and hope fare would be cheaper there. Lol
Maybe someday there will be single seat type of flying gadget to be invented and of course it is solar powered.

If anyone else had seen John Carter you'd have seen some nice solar powered ships!
Two drawbacks though:
1. that was mars
2. that was fiction
Given the boat took over a year to complete it's journey, I can't help but wonder how much the technology had moved on in the meantime...Must kinda suck to land knowing your slightly obsolete!
