I came up with this design for a horse trough planter for my perennials and it would work great for veggies as well. Total cost is $20 for new materials or you can build this from recycled cedar fence board or other recycled wood for nothing.

Enjoy!

Very nice LaMar I like it a lot, it really looks like a great way to have a niced sized container garden, that maximizes your limited water resources.

It looks like it could really be a good decor in the yard as it looks really neat.
Its design is nice and simple and great that it works for veggies. Best to use recycled materials for this project specially if there are really materials available in the house.

Very nicely constructed. Looks easy enough. for someone handy with hammer and nails. Is that a real spigot for water or a prop? Neat. Thanks very mich for sharing.

I really like this idea and want to build two off them to set along side my back porch. I will be using them for garden vegetables because I have a bad back and can no longer do traditional gardening. Your instructions are very clear and very well done. I like the part of where you describe all the items needed, especially the beverage of choice!
You made these unique containers look easy enough for even someone like me to make them. Thanks!

The water pump is real but not connected to water. You could bury a small bucket in the flower bed with a solar fountain pump and it would recirculate the water for a nice effect.

Thanks- these troughs should be a little easier to maintain for someone with back problems or knee problems. The beverage of choice is what makes the project fun!LaMar

I love the design. I'll have to knock some up. I've got of old fence palings. A better use for them than burning them in a stove. What are the dimensions? I have made wooden trugs with flowers in them and they were popular. So a new design is great thanks.

Good for you, looks great. I have a friend building me a box that I can use for similar reasons.
