OK, I've had my panels for a year now so how was the performance?  My utility bills went from $1201.94 down to $253.82 before and after.  That's a 79% reduction if my calc's are correct.  I was hoping for 90% but that's not bad considring I'm on the Canadian border.

Other mitigating factors are there was a rate increase for the entire solar year and the last month I was heating an outbuilding without insulation, (Icynene will be sprayed in next week).  Taking that into account perhaps I am closer to 85%.

I'm still on track for about 7.5 years payback, likely dropping to 7 as price increases continue year over year.  As I understand it, 2013 there is a step change in the state's required green power percentages so increases could be not insustantial.

Wonder if I dare ask "she who must be obeyed" if I can add another 10K.

Also, I finally broke down and began swapping my 24 65-Watt incandescent floods with LED eqivalents.  That should have a major impact since a third are on most of the day.  I'm using the Ecosmarts from Home Depot.  the 4.8 star reviews convinced me and they do live up to their reputation.

The outbuilding will be all LED.  In addition it will have a NEST thermostat since it can be controlled remotely and has a setup specifically for in slab radiant heat.  I'll try it in the house first and if that works I'll swap out the 9 in the home as well to help lower my propane usage.

I'm going back and forth on solar hot water.  There is no room on the roof so it will have to go behind the house.  Payback is an issue, I don't like doing anything that pays back more than a decade.  That's a long time at my age!

My next car is far enough off that I'm going to wait on the decision between hydrogen and electric.  Three or four years from now, when I'm ready, that shoud all be sorted out.

Anywho, that's my personal green report.

P.S. I accidently hit the report button instead of the edit buttion.  Hope that doesn't count!

In some ways it's good to see that Americans appear to have recovered from earlier setbacks of taxpayer losses from Solyndra and others, and that confidence in solar is returning, albeit mainly in Chinese products.

A bit of good news (getting tired of all the "the sky is falling" stories as of late)
A MW solar project has been signed off on.

"Soitec's cpv modules uses a durable glass design and Fresnel lenses to concentrate sunlight 500 times
onto high efficiency multi-junction solar cells.
The system has dual axis tracking and zero water passive cooling technology tailored to clear sky desert
locations including the Middle East."

And this in California.
