I recently made the top ten in a competition hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme and Treehugger.com, to decide who will be the official blogger for World Environment Day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

It's being decided by online vote. I'm calling all shifters to read my post, and, if you think it deserving, vote for it!

Here's the link: http://www.unep.org/...?blogger=scott2

I'm 100 votes away from being in 1st place, and this could be the push I need to put it over the top.

Thank you for your support!

You got my vote, you deserved it.
Although why is it in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil isn't known for it's environmental standards as far as I know.
Since it's still a rising industrial major

Some good reading here:

I know for decades Brazil has led the way in cleaning up auto emissions with over 75% of fuel for transportation using ethanol.

You've got my vote too. One a side note, I can't believe I entered the correct captcha on the first try!

Sorry I didn't answer this before. It's being held in Rio because the Rio+20 talks are happening there later that month.

I know--the CAPTCHAs are so annoying!

Thank you, Aspen!

I was leading by 170 votes until last night, when the person in 2nd place shot ahead and surpassed me by 50 votes. I've evened it up a bit today, but we're still neck and neck:

You can actually vote twice--once per post. If everyone could take a minute to vote for both and share this with your contacts, it would go a long way toward getting this!

Here are the two posts:

I voted again and looking at the stats, you're 93 votes in the lead as of this moment! Here's hoping you'll be headed to Brazil in a month...

You're still in the lead. I really enjoyed the post, and I particularly identified with the point about shopping. Since I've been trying to live a 'green' lifestyle, I'm spending a lot less each week. If only more people realised that, they would be more inclined towards green living. After all, we can all use the savings. Good luck, and great work.

I'm glad you enjoyed the post, Sandra! Shopping less seems an all-around good thing to me--I know my life has benefited from But to some, shopping is a favourite hobby. If only we could remove the stigma around buying things secondhand, I think we could have the best of both worlds.

To everyone who hasn't yet checked out my submissions to the competition: I made a video explaining why I want to blog for World Environment Day in Rio. Here it is:

i really enjoyed reading your posting and added my vote, good luck. I think that this time RIO can be a real turning point to get governments to understand that the people of many differant countries are ready for a sustainable future and they need to get on board.

I read your post and I think it was well written, with substance. Your story and references were very effective and the points you made about the whole economic view is an approach that will attract many to green living. I voted for you and I wish you the best. I also look forward to reading more of your writing. Keep up the good work.

Hi Scott, I voted for you! I hope I am not too late, I didn't see this post before or I would have voted earlier.  Good luck

Edit: Ok, I went back and voted for the other so now I voted for both!
