Our overflow pipe has been leaking for a while. It started off as a slow drip and ended up being quite a heavy flow. Don't worry lovelies - the water is going to the cows. Anyway, the plumber has been out to have a look and says it definitely isn't the ballcock in the cold water tank. He said there are two pipes that go over the top of the tank and the water must be coming from them. He turned the temperature of the water down a degree or two and the flow did reduce slightly. He has asked me to keep a diary so he can try and work out what's going on.
If you turn the hot tap on the overflow stops.
After the water heater has been on it pours out steadily.
This is the bit that puzzles me - the water is on from 4.30 - 5pm and not on again until 9am but even if the overflow is not pouring in the evening at least one bucket has filled up overnight.
Does anyone have any idea of what might be happening?
