Ya, Google hasn't become Facebook yet, but they've lost their halo.  I do believe that this move was meant to make it easier for everyone, but it just isn't clear.  I've started to move my data out of the public cloud and will be hosting my own services once again.  Kinda interesting because that is how I got my start in IT was by running my own email and web services and now I'm coming full circle again.

Small businesses feel they are only able to compete by putting all of their sensitive information "in the cloud", but all it really does is make them vulnerable.  Large corporations have their own data centers and keep their sensitive information local, so it's time we all take a lesson and get serious about trusting "the cloud".

Like when Grand Ma used to say-"don't put all your eggs in one basket."

I did a presentation at a MN Government IT Symposium recently and brought up that exact point.  Normally, you hear people say "don't put all your eggs in one basket", but now with the public cloud the message is "don't put all your eggs in their basket".

All of your eggs are just one tiny egg in their basket.

They're a good search engine; it's usually what I use.
But I don't like the "all encompassing" part of it-too big, too many fingers in too many pies.

Will users of their services know about the privacy options-g. mail, etc. or will they ignore them?
Fine print type of thing; no money down on a $100,000 house and I didn't read the whole contract,
which led to the housing bust, type of thing.
