Something that keeps me from using my laptop more is the constant need to recharge the battery. I only use it outside of the home (that's what laptops are for) and the battery running out is a huge annoyance. But I recently read an article (sorry, can't link yet) , which says Samsung should have released a solar powered netbook last July. I'd like to know where they're sold and if they're any good. This would be great, at least in the summer, to go and get some work done in the great outdoors. Has anyone seen these in the shops? Does anyone have one?

If this is really true and there is a netbook that will run using solar power then I would be very happy! It would have to work well though because if it only slightly increases the time between charges then that would defeat the purpose for me. I would want something that you could rely on and keep you connected no matter where you go. I would love to know more about this, maybe I can do a little research and find something. :)

I personally would not choose the netbook or laptop based on its ability to run on solar power. Making such a selection would be very limiting. Instead, there are a number of products using solar energy that can be used to charge batteries and devices and this would be a far better approach in terms of choosing the best laptop for your needs as well as being able to get the most efficient charger to recharge it.

How does it charge? Because if the whole netbook has to be outside, that seems silly to me (as usually you can't see the screen with the sun). Computers, for as mobile as they are these days, are still an indoor thing (or at least outside in the shade).

A solar charger for laptop sounds better for me than solar powered laptop.
That was the case if the solar powered laptop need to be exposed to the sun to be able to use it. It could be a cool idea specially when you want to use it in the beach or outdoor park. More details on how that kind of laptop would work will be interesting to read.

Usually, computers really shouldn't be in the sun. The will heat up, especially in places where it is very hot. It makes me wonder how efficient the laptop would be if it is constantly in the direct sun (for the solar power). I would go with a solar charger instead. There are many on the market too.
