Not everyone appreciates squirrels. They can cause problems; nesting in attics
or roof vents.
But would be have oaks, pecans or other nut trees, if they didn't bury their
nut cache for a later date?
And they're so cute, so here's a link to an article on "squirrel appreciation day" with
lots of photos.

I think you are quite correct, unless we had another Johnny Appleseed going around planting seeds, we would have many less trees.
Squirrels although a problem at times, are a great help in helping to populate areas with needful trees. Great little helpers they are.

Thank goodness they're forgetful!

I often wonder where they go in the winter when it's cold. There are not a lot of large trees around the house, for them to scurry inside them. Just seems like they would get cold, unless their body heat adjusts and their furry skin keeps them warm. I think about deer as well. I guess Nature is their friend.

Oh they snuggle down.
Problem being sometimes, it's in our homes. They can get into attics and garages.
My neighbor had a whole nest of them, and thank goodness he left them to give birth in the spring. They were
in his shed. The momma had 4 and they're all doing fine.
I had a problem with them nesting in one of my vent pipes several years back, and when the plumber
got everything fixed, I asked him to install wire mesh on them. (The vents-not the squirrels.)  No problems since.
But I encourage them with seeds and nuts.
I know some don't like them but they're a part of the circle of life. B)

Now that I think about it, they get in the crawl space of this house. One pregnant one went downstairs. I was so glad she went down there, because it would have drove me crazy, trying to get her out of here. I don't know what happened with her, I have to ask them.

The birds, bees and squirrels help with the populate the flowers and trees.  The bees are in danger due to the extermination of pest.  We just had to have an exterminated out for carpenter bees eating up the deck.  If we went out on the deck we were attacked by the bees.  So that we could use the deck we called out the exterminator.

That's a shame.
You should have called a bee keeper to relocate them. We need every precious one.
As for squirrels populating flowers-no I don't think so. Nut trees, yes , because they forgot where they
buried the nuts.

I think you are right.  Nature needs its little helpers for seeding.  They help keep the cycle going.

I love squirrels, except for the one that threw an orange at me today.   We have them all over the neighborhood.  They are in our yard playing on the fence every day.  On my walk today once ran across my path and up a tree.  As I walked by the tree, a half eaten orange "fell" in my path.  I think the squirrel was trying to tell me something.

LOL, we have a particular squirrel that we have nicknamed "Pissey". He lives at my parents lake cabin and every time someone goes to the cabin, he wants peanuts put out for him. They started this feeding habit, not me! He knows when someone is inside the cabin and he checks his pan for the peanuts. If there isn't any he starts to throw pine cones on the metal roof about 3:00am! We didn't know about "Pissey" the first time we stayed at the cabin. We certainly know about him now. The first thing we do when we get there now, is to put some peanuts in his pan.
"Pissey" is an interesting subject to me because it make you realize how creatures interact with humans and vice versa. It is hard to explain but I have learned from watching him that we need him more than he needs us!
