I work with a group of kids and we go to parks and clean up the park. We purchase paint, scrapers, and paint brushes so that we can paint the benches, garbage cans, and park tables. We sweep up the trash that was left behind by the park-goers and we recycle anything we can. We pull up the weeds and we bring the local park back to life. We take a before and after picture alongside of a group picture. We contact the local newspaper and/or blockclub and let them know what we did. The picture is published and we of course get a copy. The kids feel a since of accomplishment being able to see how much people care for what they are doing. Thanks.

That is a really wonderful initiative you take, by getting the younger generation to take an active role here. (Not that I am old  )
Good to know. And of course, kids get really excited to see their names and photos printed in newspapers and magazines.

Thank you so much. I try to do my best. And you are right. They love to see their names in the paper and they love to see pictures in the paper. It makes them feel as if they are doing something important which they are.

That was one good way to encourage children join activities for the community and for the environment.
They will eventually learn more about the importance of their doings and/or services as they grow more. Specially if they will really see good effects and developments.

I really think involving kids in volunteerism is a great thing- it teaches so very much. I want to get my son involved in volunteer activities as he gets older (he's not quite 2 now, so he's still too young to do much.) Maybe I will start a group of kid volunteers when he is a little older- it would be a good thing for the kids and good for the world around them.

Yes absolutely but you have to remember what the kids like. They like to see their names in the paper. They like to see their names on a certificate in a frame. You definitely have to let them see the physical rewards for what they are doing. If you help them and teach this to them while they are young then they will know how it feel to help out when they get older.

I wish I could do this with the children around here, but the school department and parents wouldn't like it. Everyone wants their kids to learn skills, but no one in my area counts volunteering as a good trait.

Getting children involved is teh best way to change people's thinking and actions in the future.  Once peopel reach adulthood they are generally set in their ways.  Include them as children and show them that there is another way to do something and they may carry that message with them into adulthood.   This is so important for the future of our world!

I agree with you. You could become a non protfit org. and people will donate money to help fund anything that you are trying to do. I promise.

i defininatly think that it is important to get children involved. They are our future and if they can help save what we and out fore fathers have ruined that would be fantastic. I would like for my grand children and further generations grow up in a cleaner planet than what I grew up in and what my children are growing up in.

Imo, gardening is the best way to get them involved from a very young age. When they plant seeds
and tend to the plot, they see the tiny sprouts coming up in a short time.

Sure, weeding can be a pain in the backside but when they sit down next to a mature tomato plant
and eat a fresh tomato out of the garden they helped to plant; there's joy in that.
A sense of accomplishment. And the wonderful taste of homegrown goodies.

That is an amazing thing you and those kids do! I believe any time you can bring kids into the equation it is a great thing because you can let them see how great it is and make them want to do it even more in the future. Also not to mention like you said, it makes them have a sense of accomplishment. I would love to see more of this happening in my community!
