Offshore Wind & Solar Combined

Solar and Wind complement each other, offshore wind is an especially good match because it peaks later in the day than solar, after the hot sunshine has soaked into the earth and stimulated a breeze offshore, but while electricity demand is still peaking.

The sun will peak at noon, offshore wind will peak at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., and the load peaks at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. in big cities like New York, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., so the wind and solar are really complementary.

Researchers’ have showen, that there is almost 2X the capacity value with wind and solar than you would get with solar alone, at 30% penetration.
