Coal Usage Is Down!

Coal is by far the most destructive of all the fossil fuels.  Aging coal-fired U.S. power plants shutting down, d[left]emand for one of the dirtiest fossil fuels is expected to stagnate or diminish here in the U.S.  When it's burned, coal releases a number of problem pollutants:
. . . 1. sulfur compounds (cause acid rain),  
. . . 2. nitrogen compounds (contribute to acid rain and smog),
. . . 3. mercury (a nervous system toxin),
. . . 4. carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas).
